Missouri Emissions: Mileage Based Waiver

Missouri Emissions: Mileage Based Waiver Vehicles in St. Louis, St. louis County, St. Charles County, and Jefferson County, Missouri that otherwise would be subject to a bi-annual emissions inspection are exempt from emissions testing if they meet one of the following criteria. Completion of Missouri Form 78-1973 is required for each type of mileage-based waiver. A vehicle that has less than 40,000 miles on the odometer when due for its first emissions inspection, an inspection waiver may be obtained. Documentation of the current odometer is required, and this can be accomplished by obtaining an IDOD, which is an vehicle information (VIN) and odometer verification. IDOD inspections are available at any authorized Gateway Clean Air Inspection Station. A vehicle more than 10 years old may be exempt from an emissions inspection if the vehicle has travelled less than 12,000 miles since its prior safety or emissions inspection. Verification of the prior odometer reading is required; the date of the prior verification must be at least 20 months prior to the date that the waiver is requested; and, a Missouri safety inspection (MVI-2) will also be required. A vehicle less than 10 years old with less than 150,000 miles on the odometer is also eligible for an Emissions Based Mileage Waiver if it has travelled less than 12,000 since it’s last inspection. Documents presented to support this type of exemption must be, at least, 22 months old. Acceptable documents to support this request include an IDOD, a Missouri Safety Inspection (MVI-2), or a Missouri Emissions Inspection (VIR). What is a Belt Tune Up?

A Serpentine Belt is the rubber Drive Belt that causes the pullies on your car's Alternator, Air Conditioning Compressor, Water Pump, and Power Steering Pump to rotate and to create electrical and mechanical power. Rotation of the alternator creates your car's electrical power. Gas powered vehicles have one or more Drive Belts, at least one Belt Tensioner, and they may have one or more Idler Pulleys. Belt Tensioners insure that the Alternator, A/C Compressor, Water Pump, and Power Steering Pump continue to spin with the rotation of the engine. Idler Pulleys are simply pulleys that do not drive other components. Idler Pulleys are used to route the Serpentine Belt.  With use, a Serpentine Belt will stretch and wear.  Belt Tensioners and Idler Pulleys also wear, and this will cause additional belt wear. What Do Spark Plugs Do?

  Spark Plugs are the small electrical parts that provide the power to ignite the fuel in gasoline powered devices. As electricity passes between the Spark Plug's electrodes, gasoline ignites causing an explosion that powers your vehicle. Spark Plugs fire once every two engine rotations. This means that if your engine is running at 800 RPMs, your Spark Plugs will fire 400 times per minute. The heat produced by these explosions causes the Electrodes to wear which increases the gap between the Electrodes. The increased gap causes your vehicle to use more fuel to produce the same amount of power.  Worn Spark Plugs reduce Gas Mileage, and unburnt fuel will damage your car's Oxygen Sensors and its Catalytic Converter. Also, the longer that plugs stay in a vehicle, the more likely they are to become stuck in the engine's cylinder head.
